Euro Cylinder
Cylinder locks are commonly found on uPVC doors, but they can be utilized on other types of doors. They work by using a key to unlock a cylinder that then reveals pins which can be aligned with those in the lock body, allow them to rotate the cam, thereby opening the door. Euro cylinders can be equipped with up to six pins with external and internal doors usually having different levels of security.
The choice of cylinder is essential. It depends on the amount of use your doors and handles will receive. For example, external doors must be secured with a higher security cylinder, whilst internal doors can be secured using an ordinary cylinder. Some cylinders have extra features that can increase security, like anti-drill or anti bump properties.
A euro cylinder needs to be properly measured to ensure that it is the right size for your door. The cylinder should be measured from the hole in the center of the fixing screw to the end of the cylinder, including the thumb turn if you have one. It is recommended to do this with the lock in place however if this is not possible, you can remove it to measure. A cylinder that extends beyond the handle and escutcheon could be susceptible to attacks like snapping locks, so it is essential that it is not too long.
The majority of modern cylinders have been designed with bump and anti-drill features built into their design. They are designed to decrease the chances of an attack by forcing the cylinder rotate in the opposite direction. This can help deflect the attack and keep your doors safe.

These spring cassettes were designed to be used with a spring multipoint lock.
